It's a gym that's trapped in time warp. The interior and equipments look age old. The treacherous spiral staircase that leads to one of the studios is no doubt a violation of health and safety. I'm glad I was only visiting there for one day. It's an experience I wouldn't like to repeat.

Terrible health club, the cafe area is shared with cardiovascular equipment, not very relaxing to have a drink. Entire place smells damp. Gym cramped and ugly. Stretch area looks like it's been installed in someone's conservatory. Changing rooms tired and requiring updating. Steam room cold. Reception staff appeared not bothered by my concerns when raised. Place has real potential to be a great club, esp the pool area, but virgin active upgrade this place now!!!! Please!

The worst Virgin active gym I've been to in the world honestly..Shocking! How Virgin active get away with selling this product in the higher tiers is scandalous.

Tired, dirty and clearly managed by a pack of dullards this gym boils my blood more than any sauna would. It is a triumph in worn-out style over substance. Things break down and get a sign apologising for temporary inconvenience. However this can stretch to weeks....currently the pool has been closed for a week ! Why? Well there's a helpful sign up saying its due to the cold temperature of the water....ok then. Similarly the kit spinner that dries swim suits in the men's section....out of action - for how long? How long is a piece of rope? No one knows, and probably no-one cares either. It really is lazy flatulent state of affairs. The place is never clean. Lockers are gradually falling apart. By the way, when the pool is open Virgin likes to boost its income by giving copious swimming classes so that any normal punter has to enquire ahead about availability! Of course none of this info ever makes it the website - which might as well be hosted on netscape for all its worth . I don't blame the staff i blame Richard Branson - a man who greets his staff naked dressed in a robe - i am reliably informed. If this company is due to usurp the NHS in the years to come then we are going to the knackers yard its an omni-shambles. Richard put some clothes on and sort your sorry excuse for a gym chain out you are pathetic - you may be good at business but it seem s you couldn't give a flying donkey about your hard-working clients. Abysmal.

Walking into the gym for the first time I was greeted by a friendly member of staff who helped me orientate myself. The gym offers three areas on the first floor (weight machines, some free weights and CV machines), a small stretching area and a studio for classes. In addition there is a small breakout area to get a coffee. The male changing rooms are in the basement where you will find a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam room as well as the usual lockers and showers. Leading from the changing rooms you can enter the pool or the gym floor.

When I walked into the gym I instantly noticed how small it is, it is by far the smallest virgin gym I've been to. I also instantly noticed the smell of stale sweat, then I saw the condensation running down the walls and the air vents of the CV area. Being a VERY small gym there isn't much in the way of equipment. There is no pull up bar for example. The weight machines are a little dated and the free weights have the feel of the 1990s about them.

While this gym is really not up to scratch it is a tier 1 virgin gym and only costs £1 more a month than my previous tier 2 gym. That and the fact that it is right next to work make it almost worth it.
